Couch to 5k Groups

Teesdale Athletic Club has also organised Couch to 5k running groups aimed at people who want to run but don't yet feel comfortable taking on organised training. A number of athletes have progressed through Couch to 5k and are now running regularly at local races.
**Some comments from our Couch to 5k runners:-

Lauren Blackett:
I joined the Teesdale Athletic Club in September 2015 when I took part in the couch to 5k group with the aim to becoming fitter. I have continued to attend the club and taken part in some 10k races including one in Edinburgh. I enjoy going to the club sessions as I find everyone friendly and supportive, and I feel it has really improved my fitness.

Astley Fenwick:
I started couch to 5K because I had been a lapsed jogger (previously furthest was 7.5 mile Pier to Pier) and really wanted to follow a structured approach with expert guidance to try and get back into running. My goals were not so much to increase my speed but to increase my stamina to be able to sustain running for a longer time. The scheme provided the training in a progressive way and not only met my expectations in a very good way but also built my confidence to tackle the challenge of the 5K Santa Run. Since completing this I have become a member of the athletics club and enjoy the different training sessions which is so more interesting than plodding around the streets. I now regularly take part in weekly park runs and look forward to tackling a 10K run in the near future.

My sincere thanks go to the tireless band of volunteers who put so much effort and time into organising the training and the events be they social or running.

Thank you for the Couch  to 5k fandango. I got  interested when someone who was doing work on the house I was moving into talked so much and so enthusiastically about running that I felt I’d like to give it a try. He let me know when the group was starting and I joined up. I have not looked back yet. The group - which seems to be made up of a lot of recidivists – was always a struggle for me to keep up with. I am older than most of the runners and have never run before but but the coaching and ways of working have been very supportive. Thank you all!
